What is Peppol?
Pan-European Public Procurement OnLine (Peppol) is an international project aimed at standardizing cross-border electronic messaging within the European Union. Do you have national and international customers and suppliers? The Peppol network is the secure choice for exchanging invoices and purchases, among other things.
Electronic invoicing was also possible before the introduction of Peppol, but brought more hassle than convenience. Large (international) companies and governments in various countries used various (self) created networks to send invoices and receiving. However, these networks do not connect to each other, so you as a business owner soon had to fall back on the paper or pdf invoice
"E-billing through Peppol is a smart and future-proof move that will greatly benefit our participants."
Edward Groot, Director Verum
What are Peppol's capabilities?
Within the international Peppol network, you can easily send electronic invoices and receiving, but you can also send purchase orders, for example, via Peppol. It will also become possible to send electronic catalogs through Peppol.
So why is Peppol so interesting?
- Peppol represents the best of both worlds: the standardization of an invoice message and a means of transport that guarantees secure communication between two organizations.
- In addition, Peppol fulfills the need for the secure and standardized exchange of messages between organizations. Thanks to registration based on identification numbers, it is always known who the sender of the invoice is and ghost invoices are not given a chance.
- Peppol is a European initiative according to European standards. The great advantage of this is that users of Peppol will immediately have a very large reach and be relieved of worries through a single connection.
- Peppol is a secure means of transport because all data is sent encrypted and because the recipient knows for sure who sent the invoice (see point 2).
- Through Peppol, secure movement of data is covered in accordance with the AVG.
- Through Peppol, you have all the information that is on the invoice available digitally. Which makes the invoice processing process that comes after receiving the invoice much easier to set up.
How far along is Peppol?
Peppol is already being used by tens of thousands of organizations, and this number is growing every day. Governments in Europe are already largely using Peppol and it is expected that more and more businesses will join. In this regard, large senders, such as KPN and Eneco, for example, are leading the way. But more and more organizations are following who see the benefits of e-invoicing via Peppol.
